The Application for the Use of Textile Techniques in Art Education

Abstract

Art; It is known as a form of expression of creativity and imagination. The presence of art, which is considered a form of expression, in education is very important. Art education is defined as all the activities carried out to convey the individual's feelings and thoughts and to bring his talent and creativity to an aesthetic level. Research; It covers the possibilities of using textile techniques in art education, and the subject of the study is the selection of Şanlıurfa as the 2023 Tourism Capital of Islamic Countries by the decision of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. The subject of the study was determined with the theme of "The Role of Local Communities in the Development of Tourism" at the 11th Tourism Ministers Meeting held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. In this study, it is aimed to perceive the identity elements of a city specifically through art education and to gain awareness about the city from this perspective. Working group; It consists of 15 students taking the Textile Design course at Harran University, Department of Art Education, within the scope of 2022/2023 education. In line with the theme, the students took the city in all its aspects and created pictorial expressions using weaving and punch techniques, which are among the textile structure and surface creation techniques. As a result of the research, students' awareness of the city and cultural heritage increased, and students gained a different experience about diversity in art education, thanks to their pictorial expressions using different techniques and different materials in a different field of art education.
