Stained Glass Sculpture: Marine Bio Diversity

Abstract

Glass has existed in human life for ages. Its raw material is sio2 (silicon) from the sea and it has taken its place in the field of art with its visuality and light plays. There are 4 types of natural glass in nature. Before humans discovered artificial glass, they made arrows and spearheads from natural glass and were used for other purposes. In indoor spaces, window openings are covered with stained glass panels. This study covers the tifanny technique, which is the latest technique used in stained glass art, glass stained glass sculpture artists and examples of glass stained glass sculptures selected from their applications. In addition, it deals with the author's own original designs, three-dimensional glass stained glass sculpture work examples and production processes with visuals. In the research, library, travel and interview studies were made as findings. In the original research process, glass stained glass sculpture applications were realized. Throughout his education life, the researcher worked together on ceramics and glass, and touched upon sea issues in his works. Technically, the cold glass technique and the art of stained glass, which is one of the oldest applications, are discussed. There are only two stained glass books as a source of books in Turkey. Rauf Tuncer is 'Stained Glass Art' M. Oktay Maral is 'Illuminated Glass Painting'. In addition, it is aimed to contribute to the literature with applications in the field of Fine Arts, sculpture, architecture and aesthetics. The Impact of Visual Arts on the Global Perception of Climate Change It is becoming more and more important that artistic and cultural activities with the theme of climate change are more effective on society than scientific, economic and political discussions (Gormley, 2010). In recent years, symposiums have been organized by taking advantage of the synergy between art and science, creating platforms where it is discussed how to increase the social perception of climate change. Because people can find something far beyond what is scientifically expressed in visual art works (Future Climate Dialogues, 2013). Looking at these events, the Venice Biennale, visited with great interest by art lovers from all over the world, is one of the closest examples of such an overdose of climate change emphasis in art for the first time (Venezia Art Bienalle, 2013). The Subject of Environmental Art has started to be taken as a subject by scientists and artists in our country with the Reality of Global Warming.
