The Effect of Organizational Silence on Organizational Citizenship Behavior: A Research on Hospital Workers in Anbar-Iraq

Organizational silence; consciously withholding and silencing their views and thoughts on recovery and development. Organizational silence can have many different consequences. One of these results is possible changes in organizational citizenship behaviors. There are important results in the studies in the literature that there is a relationship between organizational silence and organizational citizenship. From this point of view, the aim of this research is to investigate the effect of organizational silence on organizational citizenship behavior. A model was created to test the effects of the three dimensions of organizational silence, which are acquiescent silence, protective silence, and protective silence, on the five dimensions of organizational citizenship behavior, which are courtesy, benevolence, conscientiousness, civic virtue and sportsmanship. In order to test the research model and hypotheses, a sample of 500 people from 12 hospitals in Iraq Anbar was selected and a data set was created. The data set was analyzed using SPSS and AMOS package programs. As a result of the analysis, the effect of organizational silence on organizational citizenship gave significant results at almost all dimensions and the proposed hypotheses were supported. Only the effect of accepting silence on kindness and the effect of protective silence on civic virtue did not yield significant results. According to the findings, it can be said that organizational silence has an effect on organizational citizenship in hospitals in Anbar, Iraq. The fact that it is the first study to test the effect of organizational silence on organizational citizenship in hospitals in Iraq Anbar reveals the original aspect of this research. Within the framework of the results obtained in the research, it is recommended to create an organizational culture that will prevent the formation of silent employees in hospitals. Thus, it is thought that organizational citizenship behaviors of hospital employees will improve.
