The Role of Accounting Package Programs in the Digitalization Process

Abstract

The digitalization process adds a different dimension to information with new applications developed. This rapid technological development and change has also brought innovations to accounting practices. Transforming routine accounting transactions into digital applications such as e-invoice, e-record, e-ledger, e-archive and increasing efficiency in business processes; The speed and way of processing information has changed with applications such as big data analysis, cloud computing and artificial intelligence applications. The first steps of digitalization in the field of accounting are the introduction of accounting package programs. The aim of this study is to reveal the place and contribution of package programs used in the accounting profession in the digitalization process. For this purpose, a content analysis was conducted on 100 comments about accounting package programs in the group with the highest number of members, consisting of professional accountants who are active on Facebook. Based on the most recommended package programs and user experiences in the comments, the websites of the package programs were discussed and the way the programs worked, the digital solutions they offered, and their similar and different aspects were tried to be revealed. The study contributes to the literature by evaluating package programs at the point of digitalization with the digital solutions they offer and user comments.
